This is Rose Tree Cottage - A Short History

Born in Stanmore, Middlesex a village (at the time) north of London, Edmund surrounds himself with a feeling of home. Mary also comes from a small community where home and family and time to enjoy them were of great importance . . . her 'village' was in Oklahoma. Some of her most treasured childhood memories are of having tea with her Grandmother McNeill and baking alongside her mother. For several years prior to opening Rose Tree Cottage, Mary travelled throughout Britain, researching, working, studying and preparing for the quintessential tea room, combining the ambiance of a classic English country house hotel with the cosiness of a village tea room such as 'The Fuchsia Bush' of Miss Read fame.

The first Rose Tree Cottage was in a courtyard of cottages on California Boulevard in Pasadena (see pictures to the right). In 2008, Rose Tree Cottage moved to a grand and lovely old house on Pasadena Avenue (see main picture above). It continues to surprise guests and patrons by providing the same cosy English ambian
ce in a more spacious environment. And, now we have a touch of "Out of Africa" for your teatime pleasure, our Royal Safari Pavillion and, of course, the beautiful garden setting.

For the tea connoisseur, you will find everything from fine bone china tea sets, silver accessories, antiques from England and Scotland, to whimsical teaware & tea cosies, galore! And, the 'Food Hall' is brimming with a vast assortment of tasty English foods — savouries and sweets. Tea is taken in one of two lovely tea rooms, complete with nostalgic music!

Other items of interest, such as the famous line of Barbour clothing for women and men, decorative gifts, English original watercolours and antique prints make the shop a haven for lovers of all things British... including the atmospheric shop cat!
