Over A Nice Cup of Tea. . . Our "Victoria Magazine Grand Tea Tour of London" was a sheer delight this year! We made many new, wonderful friends as well as enjoying the sights and many splendid tea times together. There were so many highlights, that it is hard to name just one… so I won't! A memorable get-acquainted cream tea was spent at Emma Bridgwater's while painting mugs that were to become delightful souvenirs; our cookery & herb day in the home and garden of Mary Berry was perfection; the luxurious excursion to Bath on the Orient Express British Pullman (where champagne rivaled a cup of tea) was a day we didn't want to end; Afternoon Tea at the elegant Savoy Hotel took us from ordinary tourists to proper ladies and gentlemen; and, our last night together — being entertained with Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirate's of Penzance" in the home of Sir William Gilbert was a great treat and an enchanting ending for our time together!

We're so looking forward to spending Christmas and New Year's with another group of friends in the Lake District of England and in Scotland. How wonderful to spend a quiet, traditional Christmas in the countryside — we'll have tea by the fire, go for lovely walks, play parlour games, take in sporting and country pursuits such as golf and horseback riding (if the weather permits) and Wellie Wanging! Our New Year's in Scotland may not be as quiet— in addition to the other activities just mentioned, there will be Scottish dancing, of course! Our two days in York and one in Edinburgh will give us a taste of city life during the holidays as well.

Then, more wonderful adventures are being planned for next year — including celebrations for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee! Perhaps you'll join us in England or in France — taking tea, talking books, seeing sights, and perhaps dancing with Edmund or riding with Mary. We do hope you will do just that.

Rose Tree Cottage was established in 1979 by Edmund & Mary Fry

Born in Stanmore, Middlesex a village (at the time) north of London, Edmund surrounds himself with a feeling of home.

Mary also comes from a small community where home and family and time to enjoy them were of great importance . . . her 'village' was in Oklahoma.

For several years prior to opening Rose Tree Cottage, Mary traveled throughout Britain, researching, working, studying and preparing for the quintessential tea room, combining the ambiance of a classic English country house hotel with the cosiness of a village tea room such as 'The Fuchsia Bush' of Miss Read fame.

Rose Tree Cottage's 'English Village Shop & Tea Garden' is filled with book-lined shelves with classics for children (in the Beatrix Potter room), novels, home, garden and cookery books. Also, the British Tourist Authority range of touring guides, maps and picture books for the tourist and the armchair traveler alike.

For the tea connoisseur, you will find everything from fine bone china tea sets, silver accessories, antiques from England and Scotland, to whimsical teaware & tea cosies, galore! And, the 'Food Hall' is brimming with a vast assortment of English Teas and tasty foods. Tea is taken in one of three cosy, nostalgic tea rooms, complete with piano and palms!

Other items of interest, such as Floris and Trumper's fragrances for women and men, decorative gifts, English original watercolours and antique prints make the shop a haven for lovers of all things British.

A new video all about tea: "The Butler Did It" — a light hearted collection of clips about having a good wet cuppa' — with Edmund Fry.
